◆ This Week's Torah Portion: Ki Seitzei
Parashat HaShavua (the weekly Torah portion), calculated automatically from the Hebrew calendar. Read on Shabbat, Saturday, August 22, 2026.
What Is Parashat HaShavua?
Parashat HaShavua (פרשת השבוע, "portion of the week") is the weekly Torah reading recited in synagogues on Shabbat morning. The Torah — the Five Books of Moses (Chumash) — is divided into 54 portions (parshiyot). On the annual cycle, used by most communities, the entire Torah is read over one Jewish year, completing on Simchat Torah and immediately restarting from Bereishit (Genesis).
The reading schedule is determined by the Hebrew calendar. On weeks when a major festival falls on Shabbat, the regular portion may be postponed, and certain portions are combined (double parshiyot) so the cycle stays synchronized. In Israel, where some holidays are observed for one day instead of two, the schedule occasionally diverges from the Diaspora — a difference this calculator accounts for automatically.

The 54 Parshiyot of the Torah
The Torah is divided into 54 portions across the five books. The reading cycle follows the order of the books: Bereishit (Genesis, 12 portions), Shemot (Exodus, 11 portions), Vayikra (Leviticus, 10 portions), Bamidbar (Numbers, 10 portions), and Devarim (Deuteronomy, 11 portions). Each portion is subdivided into seven aliyot, read on Monday, Thursday, and Shabbat, plus the maftir reading from a related section.
This page calculates the correct portion for any Shabbat directly from the Hebrew calendar algorithm. The portions update automatically as the year progresses — there is no static schedule to maintain.
