About the Jewish Calendar
The Jewish calendar (also known as the Hebrew calendar) is a lunisolar calendar used to determine the dates of Jewish holidays, Torah readings, and daily prayers. This monthly calendar for Toronto displays both Gregorian and Hebrew dates side by side, along with:
- Shabbat candle lighting times — 18 minutes before sunset
- Havdalah times — calculated as 72 minutes after sunset (Rabbeinu Tam opinion); 8.5° (GRA) and 16.1° opinions also available on the Zmanim page
- Jewish holidays — including Yom Tov, fast days, and modern Israeli holidays
- Weekly Torah portion (Parashat HaShavua) — shown every Shabbat
- Rosh Chodesh — the beginning of each new Hebrew month
